What Is Endometriosis?

Before answering our main question “How to Treat Endometriosis”, you must know what is Endometriosis? It is the growth of tissue similar to the lining of the uterus outside the uterus, which causes severe pain in the pelvis and also makes pregnancy more difficult. These cells usually grow in the pelvis, ovaries, uterine tubes (fallopian tubes), bladder, small and large intestines, appendix, and perineum.

Endometriosis affects approximately 10% (190 million) of women and girls of reproductive age worldwide.

• Pain during or after intercourse

• Lower back pain

• Diarrhea

• Vaginal bleeding between periods

• constipation, bloating, or nausea

• Heavy or irregular period

• Infertility

• Pain during urination and defecation as a result of pressure on the pelvis.

Causes of endometriosis

The causes of endometriosis are still unknown, but there are some possible causes including:

• Retrograde menstruation: When menstrual blood flows into the pelvic or abdominal cavity instead of out of the body.

• Transformed peritoneal cells: When hormones stimulate peritoneal cells to transform into cells similar to the lining of the uterus.

• Embryonic cell changes: Hormones stimulate fetal cells to transform into endometrial-like cells.

• Surgical scar complication: Surgical scars of the pelvic organs are one of the factors that increase the risk of endometrial cells adhering to these organs, causing endometriosis.

• Endometrial cell transport: Endometrial cells may transport via blood or lymphatic vessels to other places, causing endometriosis.

• Immune system condition: Some immune system conditions can cause a defect in its ability to destroy and rid the body of cells similar to uterine cells that grow outside it.
